I have been getting a lot of messages asking if Christian women should show cleavage, so here’s my thoughts. I know that a lot of people won’t agree with me on this one. That’s okay, we can still be friends.
I believe that as a woman I should help keep men from stumbling in their walk. I believe that men should help keep women from stumbling in their walk. We should show common curtsy to one another and try to help one another.
But, with that said, I will not wear a long sleeve turtleneck while I live in Florida where the temperature is almost 90 degrees, because men can’t help but look at my shoulders. Having a general curtsy to present myself well is important, but I will also not be responsible for someone else’s struggle. It is not my fault when a man lusts over me just because I’m wearing a tanktop. It also seems a double standard for a man to be able to show off his body in any way shape or form (because supposedly girls don’t lust…ps: that’s a lie), but I get shamed for wearing a bathing suit that shows I’m a woman.
It isn’t my responsibility to shame myself and my self confidence so a man doesn’t look at me. I believe I have a responsibility to represent myself well in my clothing taste, but much of that depends on culture and geographical location. I live in a beach town and bathing suits, tank tops, and clothes for 100 degree weather are common. It is all of our responsibilities to know where we struggle….but constantly worrying that men will lust after me because I wear tank tops binds me to the law and makes me not live in grace.
